Giving thanks for refuge, and schools with heart

CCI Giving has welcomed a warm acknowledgement of support given to an important bursary program through The Catholic Education Foundation.

In the Sydney Archdiocese, the Foundation supports families who face challenges paying for primary and secondary school fees among some 152 schools there. Requests for assistance increased in 2018, for refugee bursaries for new families arriving in the country on the Humanitarian Visa program.

“We have welcomed over 200 new students in our schools fleeing war-torn countries such as Syria. The grant provided by CCI Giving to the Catholic Education Foundation has allowed us to provide help to students at Holy Spirit Catholic College Lakemba, Mary MacKillop Catholic College Wakeley, St Gertrude's Catholic Primary School Smithfield and Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School Fairfield,” a spokesperson for the Foundation said.

“When our refugee students enrol in any of our schools, they are welcomed into a community that provides a caring environment and where they can learn effectively while adjusting to life in Australia. They also receive support for their emotional, educational, social and spiritual welfare.”

The news is an inspiration for the CCI Giving team who have now opened a third round application call for 2019.

The Catholic Education Foundation is helping others by giving schools fee help. “We are grateful for our partnership with CCI Giving in supporting our work to make a difference and provide opportunities for all.”
